You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that—and shudder.” (James 2:19)
Not everyone believes there is a God. Not everyone believes that the ONE true God is exists either. Just believing in God is not enough. As you can see the demons believe there is a God. Yes there are demons, and there is a spiritual warfare that we cannot see in the physical sense, but it is going on all around us.
In some translations it says devils instead of demons. δαιμόνιον daimonion Strongs #G1140 This also states it is a spirit being inferior to God and also evil spirits or the messengers and ministers of the devil.
The demons often make people doubt or believe there is no God. Demons are workers of Satan, part of the fallen angels. They do the work of Satan. They will do anything to try to get you away from God. Plus, they will do all they can to make you not believe or accept Jesus Christ.
Notice the demons also shudder (some translate it as tremble). φρίσσω phrissō Strongs #G5425 to shudder, to be struck with extreme fear, to be horrified. They fear God. They know that they are defeated and don’t win. However, the fear the demons or devils have is not the reverent fear either.
So, just believing in God won’t save you. If it did, it would save these demons. We must accept His Son Jesus Christ.
