1 Lord, you have been our dwelling place throughout all generations. 2 Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God. 3 You turn men back to dust, saying, “Return to dust, O sons of men.” 4 For a thousand years in your sight are like a day that has just gone by, or like a watch in the night. 12 Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom. Psalm 90: 1-4, 12 NIV
Awaking on the first day of a new year is an awesome thing. So much lies before us, and we often reflect on what we left undone from the previous year. That there are new years at all is an ongoing miracle God works for us, for He has no need for time, yet made us so that we do.
We know that when our days come to an end, we will enter heaven as creatures of beauty and light, and whiter than snow. Yet for now we are material creatures, animated by a soul that lives on God. Matter is bound by time and so also are we.
With the dawn of a new day we know we must rejoice and be glad in it, come rain or shine, for the glory of creation was brought forth by God. And that it is ordered by time is also something that merits celebration.
PRAYER: Lord God in heaven, we thank you and praise you for seeing us through another year, for holding us in your mighty hand and guiding us through the good times and the bad. We know you will watch over us just as much as the new year unfolds. Grant us the certainty and the peace that comes with it to always feel and know that you alone are in control. Thy will be done, Amen.
GOD BLESS YOU.
